Profile for 2009-2010:
Scripps Ranch High School is one of 18 high schools in the city of San Diego. It is one of two high schools in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch section of the city – an involved community which places great value on strong academic standards. The school has a population of approximately 500 students who live outside the residential area.
The school’s integrated enrollment is approximately:
White – 47.3%; Hispanic - 17.9%; African American – 7.2%; Asian – 19.3%; Filipino – 7.5 %; Pacific Islander – 0.4%;
American Indian/Alaskan – 0.4%.

Course Proficiencies: Courses required for graduation include proficiency standards. Proficiencies are the basic skills and knowledge students must master to pass a specific course. The classroom teacher evaluates the students based on course content which includes the proficiency assessments. Students must pass the proficiencies at the stated level as well as meet the other requirements established by the teacher to pass the course.
Credits: Students must earn a total of 44 semester credits in grades 9-12, 32 of which must be earned in grades 10-12.
One credit per semester is earned for each course satisfactorily completed.
Grade Point Average (GPA): A minimum grade point average of 2.0 or higher is required of all graduates for performance in grades 9-12. NOTE: In class ranking and college reporting, the grades 10-12 GPA is used.
GPA is computed on the basis of: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1. AP and Honor courses are given a weighted grade point average: A=5, B=4, C=3 (D grades are not weighted).
Class Rank: A preliminary ranking is compiled in grade 12 based on academic marks earned in grades 10-11.
A final ranking is made after the 8th semester.

Special Programs:
A Gifted and Talented Program (GATE Cluster) offers qualitatively different instruction in math, science, the humanities, and world languages to gifted and talented students.
The Seminar program is for highly gifted students. Enrollment is limited to 80 students selected on the basis of test scores, achievement, teacher recommendation, and student application.
The Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFJROTC) is an elective program emphasizing the study and development of leadership, citizenship, patriotism, military science and service.
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program seeks to prepare underachieving, ethnically under-represented and/or economically disadvantaged students with academic potential for college.
English Language Learners (ELL) is designed for students who have limited English skills. Classes in English Second Language, sheltered social studies and science are provided.
A Special Education Program has specialized academic services that support all students with special needs.
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in the following subjects: Art Studio, History of Art, French, Spanish, English Language/Composition, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, US History, Government, European History, Computer Science, Music Theory, Psychology, Calculus, and Statistics. In 2008-09, 595 students took 1,015 exams; 71% were scored 3 or higher.
